Features of soft tiles

Soft roof is often called bitumen or flexible tiles, roofing tiles. Soft tiles are flat sheets that have sizes 1 by 0.33 meters, with curly cuts on one side. Flexible tiles can take a variety of forms: hexagonal, rectangular, oval, triangular, wave -like.

Flexible tiles are made of glassolt or felt (organic cellulose), which is saturated with bitumen. 4. Impact resistance. From this point of view, bitumen tiles surpasses almost all other roofing materials. A large strong hail and even abandoned stones will not cause any harm to the roof. This is determined by the shock -absorbing properties of flexible tiles and a continuous crate.
5. Resistance to corrosion. Bitumen tiles, like a large number of other roofing materials, except for metal tiles, are resistant to corrosion and rust.
6. Low electrical conductivity. Electrostatics does not accumulate on a flexible roof, so it is not a dielectric and does not require grounding. Thus, there is no danger of lightning.
7. Lack of sailing. Since the bitumen tile forms a continuous carpet on a continuous basis, it is difficult to tear off separate sheets from the roof.
8. Resistance to mechanical loads. Bitumen is able to withstand high loads due to the design of the supporting structure (OSP or moisture -resistant continuous plywood) and does not require an additional device of the snow retention system.
9. Increased wear resistance. This property is achievable due to the continuous application of natural granular stone to high -strength glassolt, which is covered with elastic and durable bitumen filler.
10. Resistance to decay, fungus, mold, lichens, mosses, chemical acids and ultraviolet light.
11. The speed and ease of roof coating with soft tiles. These indicators are provided thanks to the fifty percent adhesive layer, which covers the entire surface of the roofing material and a set of all the necessary mounting and additional elements.
12. Multifunctionality. Using bitumen tiles, you can cover the most complex curved roof shapes. This is practically the only option when installing a roof with numerous curved surfaces. And the repair consists in a simple replacement of parts of the roofing and cycle coating in the shortest possible time.

And now it is worth considering the properties of a soft roof, along which flexible tiles are slightly inferior to other roofing materials. Here are the main ones:

• The need for careful care. On the rough surface of the bitumen tile, garbage, needles, leaves and branches are lingered, so you need to constantly inspect the roof for accumulated contaminants.
• Water absorption. The absorption of moisture with bitumen is more than 10%. Therefore, before covering the roof with soft tiles, it is necessary to lay moisture -resistant slabs made of wood, which significantly increases the cost of coating.
• Weak frost resistance. This indicator is only 50 cycles. And bitumen in this parameter is much inferior to its competitors. Small resistance to temperature differences provokes tears, deformations and cracks.
• Low heat resistance. Soft roofing can withstand only a temperature plus 100 degrees Celsius. The material is considered fire hazard: the roof is light -fierce, is flammable very quickly and spreads the flame. This is a significant drawback of this tile, according to which it is inferior to many roofing coatings.
• High price. The price of a soft roof is quite high, as it includes the cost of a moisture -resistant slab, which is required to create a continuous crate. Bitumen will cost you twice as much as a metal tile, in terms of a square meter of roof.

Periodic observation of the roof condition of bituminous tiles and the simplest care is enough for the roof to serve for a long time without overhaul. Depending on the season, the restoration of the soft roof comes down to cleaning the coating from branches and leaves accumulated on it, removing vegetation (lichen and moss), harvesting garbage from pipes and gutters of the germs, additional sealing of the roofing.

It is logical to conduct a visual check of the soft roof twice a year, in the middle of spring and early autumn, since it is not worth visiting the roof in hot summer so that it is not damaged. If you find some large garbage, it is better to remove it manually. If small garbage has accumulated, then it is worth using a non -ferrous panicle, because any use of sharp objects on a soft roof is unacceptable.

In winter, snow and ice on the roof is greater danger, as it leads to roof deformations. If the amount of accumulated snow on a flexible tile causes some danger, it must be removed, excluding traditional iron shovels. Remember that snow should not be discarded to the lowest sections of the roof, but to the ground. When carrying out work related to the cleaning of the roof of snow, it is not recommended to remove the entire snow cover, leave the protective layer about 20 centimeters.

Sometimes moss, lichen and other small vegetation appear on the roof. Their occurrence is facilitated by the wind that transfers leaves, disputes and seeds to the roofs of low -rise buildings. Roof cleaning only at first glance seems a difficult task. To remove vegetation, it is customary to use water -based products, which are designed to clean the surfaces from fungus, mold, algae, moss and lichens.

When removing vegetation from a soft roof, you need to act like this. Treat the entire surface with an antibacterial solution using a sprayer. Next, you should wait for the necessary time so that the product enters the reaction of the time period for each agent is different.

Then you need to wash everything off the roofing from top to bottom in the direction of water pressure, while you need to use a high -pressure apparatus. Remember that it is impossible to direct the pressure of the jet up from the bottom up due to the roof device under the soft roof, because the water under strong pressure can leak under the tile, provoking leaks.

To ensure free flow of water from the roof, you should also clean the gutters and ghost grooves.
