The need to remove paint from the floor

The paint of all varieties is a very popular material that is customary to use as a decorative finish. It is especially often used for wooden surfaces and floor. The paint gives the floor an attractive appearance and protects it from various adverse factors, namely from high humidity, exposure to sunlight or harmful pests.

When repairing a painted floor, it becomes necessary to apply a new layer of paint, but before that, the previous one should be removed. Of course, in some cases, you can apply the paint over the already present coating, but often the painted layer is quite thick, which can interfere with the closure of the doors. In addition, the paint is cracking in places, therefore it is always necessary to remove the layer of brush from the surface of the wood. You want your floor to always look attractive and impeccable?

It may happen that after a certain period, which is usually indicated on the labels with paint and varnishes, the paint on the floor of the floor began to turn yellow and peel off. In this case, it is necessary to carry out repeated peeling, since the wood can lose its operational properties, and then it will be necessary to carry out the overhaul of the wooden floor.

Before you remove the paint from the floor, you need to decide what type of coating is in front of you:

  1. Paul from wood. It is not particularly difficult to remove the paint from such a gender, but it is still necessary to remember that if the boards are attached to the lags using nails, it is better not to use some tools - an electric plate, a grinding machine, because they can break.
  2. Self-leveling floors. It is quite easy to remove paint from such a surface with any tool. But if, when filling the bulk floor, small hollows formed on it, which subsequently flooded with paint, minor problems may occur. However, these hollows are easily cleaned by hand.
  3. Tile floors and linoleum. If you need to remove paint from such coatings, then it is best to use a building hair dryer, since when using another tool there is a small risk of damaging linoleum, tiles or the tool used.

Play paint removal methods

The most common methods for removing paint from the floor are chemical, thermal and mechanical. Most often, chemical and mechanical methods are used to remove the old coating from wooden floors. The thermal version is more professional, as it makes it possible to high -quality surface cleaning. If you could not remove the old paint using any of the above options, then you should simply remove the floor itself.

Mechanical method

To clean the floor from the old paint, both electrical and manual brushes, reference mills, and flat -grinding machines can be used mechanically. The technology of removing paint using a power tool is quite simple: for this, it is only necessary to press the working part of the tool used to the processed surface and move gradually as the paint will be removed.

Most of the manual tool is suitable for cleaning small areas, removing exfolved particles or using in hard -to -reach places, since working with it is a rather time -consuming process. The most effective and common tools for manual peel cleaning are scrapers, spatula, sandpaper holders, brushes, as well as strings and rashpili.

During mechanical removal of paint, a grinding machine (Ushm or Bulgarian) is usually used. For these purposes, a special wire brush is installed on a grinding machine. If you did not have a grinder in the arsenal, then to remove the old paint from the floor, you can apply a drill with a steel brush. Professionals also use flat -grinding machines and special reference mills to remove old paint from the floor, but they are not quite suitable for oil paints.

There is another method of mechanical surface cleaning called sandblasting. In this case, a stream of air and water with abrasive particles is directed to the surface. Due to the high pressure and high speed of particles from the surface, not only paint is removed, but also rust. The use of this method does not need to prepare the surface, removal from it of pollution and dust. Also, the procedure of sandblasting mechanical cleaning makes it possible to remove a coloring composition of hard -to -reach places.

If you do not have a special professional tool on hand, and at the same time you plan to remove the paint yourself, then you can do it with a manual mechanical way. For this you will need:

  1. A hammer. Using this tool, you can remove oil paint. This option is usually suitable for preparing the surface for pasting with tiles.
  2. Metal brush. Such a tool must be removed by the old cracked paint and rust. This method is more suitable for cleaning metal surfaces, but you can damage the tree.
  3. Manual cycle. This technique is suitable for processing a small surface. Using this tool, you can remove paraffin, oil paint and old varnish.
  4. Chisel. Sometimes there are times when it is necessary to remove the paint from the wooden floor, which on the surface is held by a strong layer. In this case, the coating can simply be built. The chisel is indispensable when it is necessary to remove in hard -to -reach places (slopes, corners, etc.) paint.
  5. Electric rubbish. Such a tool is useful only for working with two types of flooring with linoleum and wooden. You can also remove the paint from the tile and bulk coating, but you cannot completely remove the coating. Applying an electric rubble on a wooden floor, it must be remembered that there is a small risk of touching nails. Therefore, before removing the paint, it will be desirable to drown nails, and even better - nevertheless, get them.
  6. Drill or Bulgarian. Similar tools used with the connected brush (best metallic) are a more effective way to remove old paint from the floor, and especially from surfaces such as a bulk or tile floor. However, when using this tool, you must be prepared for cleaning. It’s good if you have protective glasses at hand due to the fact that these tools create a large amount of dust.

Cleaning with a manual tool is also performed when the complete removal of the layer of old paint is not required, and you plan to only make the cleaning of peeling particles. The undeniable advantage of the mechanical method is universality. With this method, almost any kind of paintwork, even nitro -paints, heat -condensed enamels, paints and varnishes based on different resins, can be cleaned.

Thermal method

The thermal method of removing the paint from the floor is as follows: the old paint coating is heated to the softening temperature and in this state is cleaned with a steel spatula. The coating is heated using an industrial hair dryer, a soldering lamp, a gas burner.

The thermal method is quite effective and simple, but has its own restrictions on use and disadvantages. The use of devices that create a stream of hot fire is not always safe. In closed rooms, another factor comes into effect, which limits the use of the thermal method: in the process of heating, toxic substances are released from paints.

The main disadvantage of the thermal method of surface cleaning from old paint is that not any surface will be cleared. For example, from plastic it will not be possible to remove paint, since most of the plastics at 200 degrees Celsius begins to deform. When cleaning rather massive metal surfaces, when cleaning the paint from plaster and concrete, the thermal technique is absolutely useless.

But if suddenly there is a need to remove paint from a wooden floor, and especially when a wooden product was covered for a very long time and a layer by a layer, this method will become the most effective. The thick layer of paint when heated is swollen by bubbles and then easily cleans, leaving a clean surface that is suitable for new staining without additional preparation.

The technology of using thermal floor cleaning of the paint is quite simple: the heating device is held with the left hand, while its hot air or flame is directed to the surface, as the paint softens, the stream moves, and at this time the softened paint is cleaned with the right hand in the direction of movement. The very skill of performing work simultaneously with two hands is produced in about 10 15 minutes.

Before cleaning from door binders, you need to carefully remove the glass, dismantle the overhead accessories (handles, wraps, locks, etc.), clean the surface of dust and dirt. With the thermal method of removal, you can apply new paint immediately, the surface of additional processing does not require, and also there is no need for drying. This makes it possible to quickly carry out other repairs.

Chemical method

In addition to mechanical and thermal methods, the old paint can be removed using special chemical compounds - various kinds of acids, alkalis and solvents. They are used as follows: the brush is dipped in the composition and applied to the paint, which is subject to removal, and sometimes applied several times, with an interval of 5 to 30 minutes. You must not forget to wear rubber gloves and read instructions for using each tool immediately before starting work, since some liquid compositions are dangerous for the skin.

After a certain time, complete dissolution of the paint occurs, after which the surface is washed with water. Either the coating is softened and bubble, after that, a cycle or spatula can be removed, and then the remaining paint is removed with water or white spirit.

A big advantage of this method is that it is not necessary to make great efforts to remove paint from the floor. But still, the chemicals themselves will require some material costs to dissolve paint. They must be used with particular caution due to the fact that they can be poisonous. And it is recommended to process only a small surface with a chemical way.

From the experience of using many chemical compounds that are designed to remove paint and varnishes, it can be noted that they grant an attempt to clean coatings older than 1.5 2 years. If the paint is quite old, then re -processing may be required. It is also usually indicated in the instructions for using which paint is designed.

It happens that the chemical method is simply indispensable. For example, so you can remove acrylic paint, if the material of the base is not said. In this case, other options simply do not exist. And if you try to remove the paint from the floor from the glass without using chemicals, then, most likely, you will not succeed.

Washing off the tree of old paint can be carried out using mineral kerosene and also using ordinary warm water. All this depends on the age of the painted product, such as the paint and the surface itself. In any situation, even if the surface of wood does not lend itself to washing, there are many more ways that we examined above.

Safety precautions when removing paint

When removing the old paint, it is necessary to adhere to such safety measures:

  1. When removing the paint thermal method, be careful with pumped heating devices. It must be noted that when heated the paint, toxic substances are released, which means that one should not forget to ventilate the room and use personal safety products.
  2. When using chemical reagents, one should not forget about toxic vapors in the air that are able to influence your health. In this regard, before removing paint from the floor, it is necessary to put on personal protective equipment. Also, you should not in contact with chemicals, you should not forget to put on gloves.
  3. When removing the old paint, a cloud of dust may appear in the room with a mechanical way in the room. Therefore, when performing such work, it is necessary to wear closed clothes, as well as protective glasses.
  4. Do not forget when manual removal of paint on the safety of working with all the tools that you use.

When choosing a methodology for removing old paint from the floor, remember that in some cases you will be useful to a combined method, which, for example, offers a chemical and mechanical method. This makes it possible to quickly finish the preparatory work for the finish flooring, as well as make the maximum smooth surface.
