How to install an iron door

The security and inaccessibility of any home depends on many factors, and the presence of a strong and reliable front door is one of the main ones. Among different types of doors, the most durable are metal doors, which also differ in great weight and high price. The installation of doors itself is quite a difficult business that cannot be handled alone, so before installing the iron door, invite two or three partners who will help in this matter.

Preparatory work

Before installing the right door, it is necessary to carry out a number of preparatory work. Namely: make measurements of the doorway, order individual manufacturing of the door or purchase a finished door according to the measurements made, and also dismantle the old front door if it was previously installed.

Measurements of the doorway and door choice

This stage of work is the simplest and easier. To measure the doorway, you will need a roulette and a notebook in which we will include the size of the door. First of all, we measure the height from the final floor to the upper point of the doorway, then measure the width from the wall to the wall inside the doorway. Now we measure the depth of the doorway, which is equal to the thickness of the wall. Based on these data, you will have to choose a suitable door for yourself.

Pay attention to several very important points. Firstly, choosing new entrance doors, it is necessary to take into account that the gap between the doorway and the box should be 25,35 mm, so the dimensions will have to be slightly reduced. Secondly, if old doors are still installed, you will have to dismantle the platbands and carefully inspect the doorway. This option is possible that the geometry of the opening is broken. In this case, you will have to re -remove the size and select the smallest value in height and width. Thirdly, the doorways and doors are standardized, so when buying a new door you can safely name your size, and you will be offered a ready-made door block. But, if you decide to make the doors to order, then give the professional measurer to remove all sizes, this will help to avoid many mistakes and unnecessary waste.

Having removed all sizes, you can purchase new iron doors or wait for them to be made to order. It all depends on preferences and wishes. The only thing to note is, be careful when buying in a store. Today, the market offers many iron -made iron doors that are positioned by our sellers as armored entrance doors. But such doors can be easily opened with an ordinary tin knife. Dismantling the old door

After acquiring and delivering a new front door, you can proceed to the dismantling of the old. This will require Fomka and Bulgarian.

First of all, we remove the old door leaf. To do this, you need to open a completely door leaf and, raising it with the help of fomki, remove from the loops. If the canvas hangs on an unusual loops, then we just unscrew them from the box. After that, remove the old platbands and get access to the doorway and fastening of the door frame. Now you can start dismantling the door frame itself, which in comparison with the removal of the door leaf will be much more difficult.

Important! There are two main points of dismantling the door frame. Firstly, the vertical racks of the box can be fixed to the doorway using nails, anchors, bolts, screws and other things. And before starting dismantling, you will have to remove them. Secondly, if the doors are iron, then the box can be welded to metal rods or plates, equipped in the doorway. And to disconnect them, you will have to use the grinder.

Having understood the mount, we take Fomka in your hands, start it between the doorway and the box, after which, using the fomka like a lever, we tear off the old box from the place. If the box is iron, two fomki and the help of a partner may be required to undermine and move it. If the door box is made of wood, then everything is a little easier. You can, simply by putting an effort, tear out part of the box. And you can file in several places of the box rack, and then dismantle them with minimal efforts.

Now that the opening is completely freed from the door frame, we take a hammer in your hands and knock down the protruding piles of old plaster, solution, putty or paint. It is necessary that the doorway be cleared of everything that may prevent you from installing a new box in place.

Installation of the front door

Now that the old door is dismantled and the doorway is cleaned of everything superfluous, you can proceed to the installation of a new iron door. But before installing the front iron door in place, you will have to decide on the method of fastening. There are the following methods of attaching the door frame in the opening:

The first With the help of rods or plates embedded in the wall. This is the most common method of fastening. The doors themselves are on the same level with a doorway, and metal plates or rods are installed from the inside, the door frame is welded to them.

Second The door box is fixed through the holes in the box racks using anchor bolts or steel rods. Usually at the door frame, which is attached in this way, holes are provided, but if there are no one, then you can drill them yourself. Then, the holes for fasteners are sprinkled through them. Both anchor bolts and steel rods can be used as fasteners. Moreover, the latter can either flan out or weld to the box of the box.

Important! The second method of fastening is used only when the door box is recessed inside the opening, the depth of which is more than 150 mm.

Third The method is a combination of the first two.

Installation of the box in the doorway

Having decided on the mounting method, we begin installation.

First of all, we install a box that is a metal frame and weighs a lot. Therefore, it is better to get it into the opening together.

As soon as they got the box inside, it must be fixed with wooden or metal wedges. We drive the wedges 2 pcs. Above, from below and on the sides. At the same time, the main thing is to maintain technological gaps between the opening and the box.

As soon as the door box is fixed, you can align it in a vertical and horizontal plane. This will need the level. Start with a vertical. We apply the level on the front side of the doors in the middle of the rack and, if necessary, beat the wedge so that the box led to the direction we need. Check the vertical at each of the two racks. Now align the box horizontally. The procedure is identical to the described above, the difference is only in the alignment plane.

Having leveled and paved the box with wedges, we proceed to its final fixation. Using a perforator, 3 holes on each side under the fasteners are sprinkled in places of fastening. As mentioned earlier, it can be anchors with a diameter of 15 mm or steel rods made of reinforcement 15 mm in diameter and a length of 100 150 mm.

We drive fasteners into the sparkled holes and once again check the vertical and horizon of the box. This must be done for the reason that in the process of drilling it could slightly move. If everything is in order, we fix the box finally.

We tighten the anchor bolts with a wrench, but the reinforcing rods and steel plates can be fixed using a welding machine.

Important! Driving rods and metal wedges is best a small five -kilogram sledgehammer.

Before welding the box to steel rods or plates, they must be cut with a grinder so as to remove the excess, but at the same time the rods or plates themselves protrude a little over the door box.

Hanging the door leaf and installing the lock

After the welding places have cooled, you can start hanging the door leaf. The door leaf itself is very heavy, so it is necessary to install it in place together or even the three of them.

But first, lubricate the door loops. The process of hanging the canvas itself is quite simple. Two lift the door and bring it to the box so that the loops on the canvas and on the box coincided. The third, if necessary, directs the canvas until the hinges are completely coincided. As soon as it was possible to combine the holes and pins of the loops, the door leaf is lowered and make sure that it completely sat on the hinges.

Having finished with this, you can install the lock in the iron door and proceed to drill the holes in the box under the locking crossbars of the castle. This will require a drill and two nozzles of the required diameter: a crown and a grinding nozzle for holes. Of course, these holes can already be ready, but if for any reason they have not been done earlier, you can do everything during the installation of the door. To do this, after installing the lock in place, we put out shut -off crossbars and apply paint on them, for example, after which we return to the initial position and close the doors tightly. Now we are trying to close the castle. As a result, the paint will mark the place under the holes. It remains only to spill holes and sanding the edges.

We take out the glass wool from the holes.

Having installed the box and hanging the door leaf, we close the gap between the doorway and the box. For these purposes, you can use the mounting foam, or a cement-sand mortar can be used. Here, someone likes more. A simpler and easier way to blow out with mounting foam. In order not to accidentally stream the new doors with mounting foam, we glue the edge of the box with masking tape, and for better adhesion of the foam, the wall can be slightly moistened with water.

For damping the entire perimeter of the door, one foam cylinder will be enough. After a day, the mounting foam will completely dry and collapse. The protruding pieces of the foam are easily cut off with a knife, after which you can start plaster slopes, installing the inlets and other finishing work.

Despite the apparent simplicity of installing iron doors, a very difficult task, requiring the masters of excellent ownership of the tool and the experience of performing such work.
