Citizens who have lived in metal dungeons of stone jungle all their lives are gradually losing interest in faceless urban interiors, giving preference to classical, vintage and rural styles characterized by emphasized personality. An integral component of these interiors is the tree popular finishing material, thanks to which they acquire uniqueness and original beauty. However, here there are tricks if country - and eco -style is often supplemented by a tree in its original natural form, then within the framework of vintage and even classical styles, a more appropriate tree will have a more attractive and noble appearance. Almost any element of the interior can be made from it: it can be a vintage lamp, and a wooden chest of drawers, and the classic use of wood in the interior is the manufacture of window sills and doors. Under natural conditions, the process of aging wood takes more than one year, intricate patterns on its surface are formed slowly and unevenly, which makes aged wood a rare and expensive material. However, the technology does not stand still, and over time, the method of artificial aging of wood was developed, called brushing. Interest in such a method of processing wooden surfaces is manifested not only by lovers of elite vintage furniture, but also by owners of suburban areas who decided to diversify the interior decoration of summer houses. Given the relevance of the problem, in this article we will consider the essence of the process of brushing wood, the main varieties and tools necessary for its conduct, and also tell you how to brush the wood with your own hands.
If you carefully consider the appearance of the wood on the cut, you can see a peculiar pattern of the annual rings in which dark and light colors are interspersed. This pattern is based on the alternation of solid (dense) and light (more loose) fibers, and the latter are more susceptible to time and aggressive climatic factors, which leads to their gradual wear. That is how the formation of annual rings occurs, which over time not only acquire density and contrasting shades, but also visible volume. This is the basis of the natural aging of the wood of the process, which has occupied more than one decade. Thanks to the lightning development of innovative technologies, a unique opportunity to artificially speed up the process of aging wood has now appeared. This can be implemented in practice using the brashing method, which got its name from the English word Brush brush. In the Russian language there is a similar term, which is designated as structuring wood.
Bracing is the method of artificial aging of wood, which implies the use of specialized tools and techniques. The brushing technique is based on the mechanical processing of the wood of special metal brushes, with which the most soft upper fibers of the material are removed. Thanks to this technique, the hard surface of the wood is exposed, on which the texture of the material and the structure of the annual rings are clearly visible, and a beautiful relief is also formed, emphasizing the aesthetic type of finishing material. However, the process of breastation does not end there. To emphasize the relief and make the structure of the wood even more distinct, it is distinguished by color, which gives richness to natural shades. To do this, uneven staining of a surface treated with a metal brush is performed, while the hollows formed as a result of the removal of soft fibers are painted in darker shades, and the surface of the texture into lighter ones. Thanks to this technique, the relief of wood becomes as noticeable as possible.
Important! In order for artificially aged wood to acquire maximum similarity to the material, the aging of which took place in a natural environment, experts recommend painting material that previously undergone brashing. Without waiting for the complete drying of the paint, it is lubricated from the embossed surface. Thanks to this technique, the impression will be created that products from artificially aged lumber stood in the open air for at least 10 years.
Important! If natural aging negatively affects the operational characteristics of the wood, weakening its structure, then thanks to the artificial aging carried out by the method of breasting, the material acquires additional strength.
The artificial structuring method can be used in the framework of wood processing of both hard and soft species. The main requirement that the wood should be met that is subject to breastfeeding is the presence of a clearly expressed texture and clearly noticeable layers of various hardness. Such materials include oak, pine, walnut, larch, wenge and ash.
As for alder, cherries, birch, tick, maple and beech, in relation to these breeds, the brushing method will be proven ineffective, since a distinctive feature of these trees is a small -fiber structure without a pronounced layer.
At first glance, the process of artificial structuring of wood may seem difficult, but its implementation is even inexperienced by the inexperienced master, if there is a certain set of tools at his disposal to save time and effort spent to work. In addition, it should be noted that the brushing of wood can be carried out in both manual and mechanized ways, which is more determined by the tool used. Depending on the method by which the wood is breaking, the tool can be the following types:
Important! Working with an abrasive-polymer brush, it is necessary to ensure that the processed surface of the wood does not burn when working at high speeds. To avoid this, it is necessary to purchase a revolution regulator.
Important! After the initial surface treatment, experts recommend using a kerosene burner, with which the material is fired. Remember that a gas burner is not used for these purposes. Firing the surface of wood with a kerosene burner contributes to:
- removal of small wood fibers;
- drying of the upper layer of wood;
- the allocation and emphasis of the natural structure of wood.
On the scale of production, the volume of work is several times higher, in connection with which, there is a need to automate the process, which implies the use of special machines. This contributes to the simplification of the manufacture of aged wood, and also reduces temporary costs, allowing you to perform large volumes of work in a short period of time.
If you want to purchase special machines for brushing wood at home, this makes sense only if you plan to do a large amount of work. Consider the most common models of specialized technology for brushing wood.
1. The first brush made of steel wire, which is used for primary wood processing;
2. The second brush made of synthetic pile, designed for intermediate grinding;
3. The third of Sisal is used to polish the treated surface.
Makita 974 grinding machine It can also be used to brush wood, however, in the process of working with it, difficulties may arise associated with the processing of corner areas. In this regard, in the joints between the walls and the floor, it is necessary to additionally use the angular grinding machine equipped with nozzles;
If you are not a guru in the field of brushing wood, the master class and advice of our experts will help you study in more detail this methodology of wood processing.
Let us consider in more detail the process of brushing wood.
Important! If you decide to automate the process and do breaking with a grinding machine or a grinder equipped with special brushes, remember that the movements of the tool fixed to the grinder are also produced along the fibers, and the rotation speed selection must be carried out in advance on a small model of the material, since for different varieties of wood This technical parameter may vary significantly.
Important! You can use a stain as a coloring composition. To do this, apply it abundantly to the surface of the material and quickly remove the excess. Thanks to this technique, soft fibers absorb paint, acquiring a darker shade, while the hard will remain light.
Unlike mechanical, the brushing of wood using chemistry is considered the most rarely encountered type of artificial structuring. Despite the fact that the use of chemically active compounds facilitates the process of breaking, their widespread use is limited to the need for special knowledge and skills in a master working with chemicals. In addition, difficulties with the acquisition of chemistry may arise.
For chemical brushing of wood, acids (sulfur and salt), alkalis and other caustic chemicals (ammonia) are used. After they are applied to the surface of the material, they corrode soft fibers, and it remains only to scrape off unnecessary wood.
The sequence of work in chemical breasting is as follows:
Wooden products, for the manufacture of which the branded wood was used, will become an original addition to classic and vintage interiors, perfectly fitting into the main stylistic concept. The aged wood in the form of wall panels, massive ceiling beams and columns will be made by any, even the most concise interior, refined and aristocratic.
