How to install a metal door

So, the door was chosen and even delivered, now you can proceed to its installation? No, first you need to dismantle the entire old door frame. To do this, remove the worn door leaf, just taking it off the loops with a small mounting crowbar. Some doors are installed on unusable loops, in this case you will also need a screwdriver that will need these same loops and unscrew.

The next stage of dismantling the release of the door frame from all the marking: anchors, nails, bolts. After that, it is easily taken out with a crowbar. If the structure does not lend itself, then the side beams can be cut in the middle and then tear it off. Similarly, the upper and lower bars are removed. If the door was installed in a metal welded structure, then to remove it, it is necessary to cut off all the fastener reinforcement.

Next, the doorway is cleaned of sticking pieces of concrete, brick, nails, old plaster and insulating materials and expands to the size of a new box. All work should be performed extremely neatly so as not to damage the electric wires entering the room. The dimensions of the opening are best increased using a perforator. Having shot down excess concrete, you should carefully cut off the entire interfering installation of the reinforcement.

After all construction garbage is removed, you can try on the frame of the new metal door to the opening and mark the holes for the pins, which it will be attached to the wall. Some use ordinary steel rods for this purpose, but they do not provide the reliability of fastening as anchors that have the ability to expand into the holes. If, nevertheless, you decide to use the pins, then they should either be welded or flared after clogging into the wall. With this method of installing a door frame, it is necessary to leave a small technological gap between it and the wall. As a rule, 1-2 cm is enough for this.

The second method of fastening the frame is used when the door needs to be drowned in the opening. This is a more reliable, so -called European, installation option. For the box, a special profile is used, covering the opening on both sides: both from the internal and from the outer. After installation, all the voids formed are filled with a cement mortar with additives that significantly increase its strength. In this case, the wall with the door forms a real monolith, which is almost impossible to break. But to set the frame in this way, it should only be if the wall thickness exceeds 150 mm, otherwise the door will be torn out with a strong blow. The box is attached through the holes located on the inner wall of the profile. If they are not provided for by the manufacturer, then it is necessary to drill them first, then drive anchors or metal rods into them. In this case, the value of the technological clearance should be at least 10-15 mm.

We will continue to work on the installation. After trying on, the door box must be leveled in the opening. To do this, you will need wooden wedges, the size of which should be slightly larger than the necessary width of the clearance between the box and the opening. Having clogged them sequentially into the upper and lower parts of the box, you need to achieve the verticality of the side rack located from the side of the loops, and fix it in this position, leaving the necessary gaps. We check the verticality using a construction plumb line both from the inner and the outside.

After this stage is finished, we fasten the rack in any of the above methods and carefully lubricate the loops. After hanging the doors, the remaining lubricants must be removed.

Next, we align the opposite side rack. At the same time, a technological gap of 3-4 mm should be left over the entire height. This is easy to do, slightly shifting the rack and at the same time covering the door. After that, fix it in the same way. It is worth finally tightening the anchors or welding rods only after a thorough check of the door for performance. Closing and opening, the door leaf should not touch the box in any place.

At the end of the installation, all the gaps are covered with construction foam, and in order for the box to remain clean, it can be sealed with masking tape. The surface plaster between the door frame and the opening can be started only after 24 hours.
