Plastic plinth mount to the floor

The skirting board is one of the main decorative elements of the room. It gives the floor an aesthetic appearance, hides the cracks and allows you to mask the wires. To date, wooden and plastic skirting boards are most in demand, but there are many other species. This article will talk about how to choose and how to correctly fasten the baseboard to the floor.

Types of plastic skirting boards for the floor

Plastic skirting boards are divided into two types - universal and under the carpet. Universal applies to all types of coating (laminate, wooden floor, tile and linoleum).

For fastening the carpet, the skirting board of the figurative shape is used. He presses the carpet to the floor, not allowing it to slide, and at the same time, performs a decorative function.

There are four types of plastic skirting boards in composition:

  • hard from foamed PVC. This type is elastic, not hollow, but easily breaks.

  • hollow from hard PVC. They have high strength, but lower quality. To a greater extent, they are designed for simple decoration of premises without claiming sophistication.

  • semi -burned PVC skirting board. In composition, they are the same as foamy. But they differ in high flexibility of the material and are sold in the form of a tape in rolls. They have an aesthetic appearance, a wide range of colors, and can also imitate any natural materials.

Which type of skirting board is better - plastic or wooden?

A wooden baseboard is environmentally friendly, but has a shorter service life. The plastic is made of synthetic PVC, but its duration of operation reaches 100 years. Compared to wooden analogues, they have a number of advantages and are a serious competitor for other varieties of skirting boards.

Advantages of plastic skirting boards:

  • the ability to use in absolutely any rooms from the bedroom to the bathroom. And a huge selection of colors will not be difficult to choose the best option for each room;
  • compared to wooden, plastic skirting boards are more flexible and durable. They are well cut and easy to install;
  • are not combustible, which makes them safer;
  • have excellent moisture resistance, as a result of which they are easy to wash;
  • have an affordable price.

In addition to all of the above in most models of plastic skirting boards, there is a special gimbox for laying wires.

Based on the above differences, we can conclude that in most cases, plastic skirting boards are predominantly more than wooden. Naturally, there are exceptions when the design of the room involves the use of exclusively natural materials.

But among plastic models, you need to choose the best option. As a rule, in appearance they practically do not differ from wooden.

The classic option is a skirting board with special mounts and a hole for a cable. Its main advantage is that it hides the wires and location of the baseboard, and is also very easy to install. The second option is a skirting board with a whole plastic structure, which is attached using clip.

The choice of one or another type depends on taste preferences and financial capabilities.

Components elements

The components of the elements include internal and external angles, connection and plugs. They have various shapes and coloring depending on the type of skirting board.

  • Using the corners, the skirting boards are combined in the corners of the room, which gives an aesthetic general view.
  • Interpretation compounds are designed for lengthening the strips and for joining them among themselves. They are a piece of plastic with two grooves for joining.
  • The plugs are needed to decorate the edges. For example, in the places where the plinth is adjacent to the door. They come in two types of left and right, and, as a rule, are sold complete with a baseboard.

The components of the elements include fasteners with which the bar is attached to the wall.

How to attach a baseboard to the floor with your own hands

To date, there are three methods for attaching the skirting board, the main task of which is its qualitative and durable fixing to the wall.

Fastening on glue. It is not suitable for all rooms. In the case when the walls and angles are uneven, it is very likely that the baseboard will disappear from the wall. But if the walls are even, and all angles have 90 degrees, then this is the most optimal option.

Installation using special latches on which the skirting board is fixed. This method is suitable in absolutely any conditions. The main drawback of this type of fastening is that the latches cannot withstand re -installation, and after dismantling the skirting board, you will need to buy new ones.

The latter method involves fastening directly. The skirting board is simply screwed to the wall with screws. The fasteners will be visible, but they can be masked with special plugs selected in color. Also, the fasteners will not be noticeable if you use a skirting board with a special groove for laying electrical wires. In this case, they are closed with a decorative lid intended for masking wires. This method is the cheapest and most reliable of all of the above.

The necessary tools for work

To carry out the installation of skirting boards, you will need tools that are best prepared in advance:

  • kryzuvka for metal;
  • awl (for piercing holes);
  • roulette;
  • pencil or pen;
  • building corner;
  • drill with the necessary cores;
  • screwdriver with the necessary nozzle;
  • perforator (if work is carried out in a brick house).

Calculation of the required number of materials

Before starting installation, you will need to calculate the number of materials that will be required during the attachment process.

First, the room is measured around the perimeter (excluding the width of the doorway from the calculations). To determine the required number of skirting boards, the resulting number is divided into the length of one bar. Be sure to have a supply of material at least 0.5 m, which will be quite enough. The number of necessary corners is equal to the number of them in a particular room. And the number of plugs will be equal to the number of doors multiplied by two. To calculate the fasteners, the total perimeter of the room is taken and divided into 50 cm. The screws or dowels will need as much as the fasteners plus 10 pieces in reserve.

When conducting calculations, it is necessary to make stocks of 2 or 3 mm, as well as take into account the reserve for the corners and docking of the skirting boards.

Installation for liquid nails

For work, you need to prepare a file on plastic, liquid nails, decorative elements of corners, plugs and skirting boards itself.

Starting to install the walls on liquid nails, this must be thoroughly aligned, this will allow them to attach them more reliably and efficiently. It is desirable that they are lined with drywall or professionally plunged.

The installation of the baseboard begins with one of the corners. Liquid nails in the form of drops at a distance of about 3 or 5 cm from each other are applied to the aligned wall. Further, the connecting element is glued to the free edge - this will simplify further work.

Tip: for more convenience, the adhesive composition is applied not on the wall, but directly on the bar.

Then the baseboard itself is glued to the wall. It is important to make sure that its edge fit tightly to the neighboring wall. It will need to be pressed and held in this position for about one minute until the glue composition grabs. After that, you can proceed to the installation of the next site.

In order for it to hold well later, it should be attached to high -quality liquid nails (you should not save on this).

Installation using special mounts (clip)

This method of fasteners is the most expensive and time -consuming process, but the result is a perfectly installed skirting board. All existing types of skirting boards are mounted on clips, while the walls of the walls are not presented with high requirements. Just with more uneven walls, it will be necessary to fix clips with a lesser step from each other.

Stages of work

First, on the wall there is an approximate distance of the mounts. To do this, in the place of future fixation of the mounting elements, one of the clip to the wall and to the floor is tightly pressed and a mark is made with a pencil.

Then a hole is drilled in a wall with a depth of about 0.5-1 cm (but more than the length of the dowel). Using the hammer, the dowel is clogged into the wall and the clip is applied to the resulting hole and scroll through with a screw.

After that, you can proceed to the installation of the next mounting device. On wooden walls, clips are attached to screws. The above method is suitable for fixing clip in concrete and brick walls. If the room has even walls, then subsequent clips should be fixed every 0.5 m. But on an uneven surface they should be located after 0.2-0.4 m, depending on the curvature of the walls.

After installing the clip, the skirting board itself is installed. First you need to measure its length. If it turned out to be longer than the required segment, then it is shortened to the desired size.

To make the fasteners of the bar on clips, you just need to attach it to the clips and snap it on them. This is done by pressing the skirting board before clicking. Next, the spacer is put on the free edge of the baseboard. After that, the installation of the next site begins. The new bar is first inserted into the spacer, and then also closes on clips.

When the work along the entire perimeter of the room is finished, you need to attach decorative corners and plugs. The corners are attached, just dressing in the joint of two skirting boards in the corner, and the plugs are put on the free part of the skirting board near the door.

For a better joint of corners and plugs, you can connect them to liquid nails, this will help improve the quality of the connection and give an additional guarantee that the corners and plugs will not fall off.

For attaching carpets or linoleum, skirting boards equipped with special recesses for laying the edges of the coatings, which allow you to replace the flooring without dismantling.

Fastening by drilling skirting boards through and through

  • To fix the plinth in this way, you need a drill, screws and a plastic file. The method is applicable for the installation of skirting boards in secondary rooms.
  • First, the necessary measurements are made, as described above.
  • A segment of the skirting board of the desired size is prepared.
  • Holes are drilled in it. They should already be what a self -tapping hat, otherwise the skirting board will not hold on.
  • The bar is pressed against the wall and its fasteners are carried out with freezers.

  • In the absence of a channel cable, you can give aesthetics to the hats of self -tapping screws using decorative linings.

If the walls are stone, then the fasteners of the baseboard should be carried out using dowels. To do this, drill holes in the wall and combine them with holes in the skirting board. After that, the baseboard is attracted to the wall with screws.

Installation of a cable for skirting boards

Absolutely any wires can be laid under the baseboard (telephone and television cables). There are three ways in total how to do it:

  • the first method is to lay a cable under the fasteners of the clip. The main thing when using this method is not to hurt the cable with a self -tapping screw.

  • in the second method after the installation of the skirting board, the screws are weakened by 5-7 mm. Then the cable is laid on the wall and fixed.

  • the third method is based on a cable laying in a special gutter, followed by the closure of the cable with a decorative lid.

Hidden cable gasket can be done when using any models of plastic skirting boards. But when laying electrical wires, it is necessary to turn off the network voltage.

The cost of plastic skirting boards and components

Plastic skirting boards were able to quite oust wooden from the construction market. They have established themselves from the good side as high -quality and simple products. But high demand caused rising prices for them in recent years. Their cost consists of several factors. As a rule, this is the fame of the manufacturer, the type of plinth and its color.

The price of a universal plastic plinth varies from 60 to 90 rubles per 2.5 m. The skirting board with a gutter for a cable costs from 40 to 70 rubles per 2.5 m, and without a gutter from 30 to 50 rubles. Clips are sold by packages of 50 pieces, the price of them ranges from 200 to 500 rubles, depending on the manufacturer. The cheapest components are plugs that cost within 20-30 rubles.

Below is the approximate cost and sizes of plastic skirting boards for the floor.
